Meet our Horses

Teddy

Teddy
Teddy is a handsome chestnut registered Paint who was born in Minnesota in January, 1999. He has stepped up to bat after we lost our dear sweet Copper. Teddy is doing a great job and is quite a super star. He gives most of the therapeutic riding lessons, as well as dressage and jumping lessons. He is rewarded for all his hard work by pounds of apples and carrots and seems to be fine with this agreement.

Dolly

Dolly is a beautiful black Thoroughbred mare who was born in April, 1995. She is a retired racehorse who had a successful career but was raced too hard and too young. She now lives a leisurely life and will spend the rest of her life here on the farm. When she feels good, she is lightly ridden. When she is too stiff and sore, she spends time grazing in the field with her little friend, Sadie Mae.

Heavy

Heavy is a chestnut quarter horse gelding who was originally a Colorado ranch horse. He wasn’t too sure about coastal living at first but has come to enjoy soaking his legs in Buzzards Bay on hot summer evenings. Heavy is elderly and gentle. He lives with his two goat friends, Mike and Clover.

Pelli

RIP July 2, 1990 – April 24, 2021

Pelli is a tall, dark bay and handsome Oldenburg gelding who was born in July, 1990. He was a very successful dressage horse and jumper in his day. He is the king of the farm and he knows it. Regal in his ways, he is a kind ruler and all the other horses love him. He now teaches students the fine art of jumping and dressage when he is not hanging out with his pal, Teddy.

Sadie Mae

RIP 2018
Sadie Mae is an adorable Haflinger mare. She will not tell us her age, so it remains unknown. We do know that she is not a spring chicken. She came to the farm to be a therapeutic lesson horse, but had her own ideas. She is ridden by some experienced and tough little kids, but mainly accompanies Dolly in the field.

CopperandAlex

Copper

March 16, 1982 – August 19, 2013
Copper was a chestnut Quarter Horse gelding born in New Jersey. Copper is the reason Helping Hands and Hooves happened. This horse was a saint of a creature who was loved by everyone. In his early years he was a spritely barrel racer.

Later in life he became a top-notch lesson horse who taught nearly everyone around how to ride. He visited the first-grade class each June so they could learn about the kindness of a horse. He gave pony rides each summer at the town fair. He gave many people their first horse ride, and one woman who was dying of cancer, her last. He became our therapeutic riding horse when we started HHH. Many students would only do their physical therapy if they were on Copper. He took students to the Special Olympic Trials where they went on to win gold medals. Copper and Pelli1

Copper gave his students wings and his heart. He was a most special horse and will be forever remembered.

Mike

Mike is a Nigerian Dwarf goat who is extremely intelligent. He once fooled a delivery man into thinking he was a German shepherd guard dog. He is actually very sweet and gentle. He enjoys escaping from his paddock and eating flowers.

Clover

Clover is a Nubian goat and best friends with Mike. He enjoys getting scratched by anyone who walks by. He is not a fan of rain.
