Meet our Horses

Fergus

DOB May 20, 2021
Belgian Draught/German Warmblood Cross

Gallant and strong, kind, and willing – not to mention extremely handsome… Fergus could be the poster boy for the equine species. He joined the farm on July 25, 2025. He quickly became one of the farm favorites and is loved by everyone. He welcomes all to join the Fergus Fan Club – already a large group. Anyone can join with the initiation fee of a Fergus ear and belly scrub.

Bentley

Bentley, a.k.a. Famous Investment is a registered paint. He was born on May 22, 2021 in Missouri. He zigzagged his way across the country and eventually made it to our farm. He is currently a therapeutic-horse-in-training under Teddy’s watchful eye. He is calm and kind and is doing quite well. Once Teddy decides to fully retire, Bentley will take his place. Bentley is absolutely gorgeous and he knows it.

Teddy

Teddy
Teddy is a handsome chestnut registered Paint who was born in Minnesota in January, 1999. He has stepped up to bat after we lost our dear sweet Copper. Teddy is doing a great job and is quite a super star. He gives most of the therapeutic riding lessons, as well as dressage and jumping lessons. He is rewarded for all his hard work by pounds of apples and carrots and seems to be fine with this agreement.

Heavy

Heavy is a chestnut quarter horse gelding who was originally a Colorado ranch horse. He wasn’t too sure about coastal living at first but has come to enjoy soaking his legs in Buzzards Bay on hot summer evenings. Heavy is elderly and gentle. He lives with his two goat friends, Mike and Clover.

Dolly

RIP January 2023

horse 2

Dolly is a beautiful black Thoroughbred mare who was born in April, 1995. She is a retired racehorse who had a successful career but was raced too hard and too young. She now lives a leisurely life and will spend the rest of her life here on the farm. When she feels good, she is lightly ridden. When she is too stiff and sore, she spends time grazing in the field with her little friend, Sadie Mae.

Pelli

horse 3

RIP July 2, 1990 – April 24, 2021

Pelli is a tall, dark bay and handsome Oldenburg gelding who was born in July, 1990. He was a very successful dressage horse and jumper in his day. He is the king of the farm and he knows it. Regal in his ways, he is a kind ruler and all the other horses love him. He now teaches students the fine art of jumping and dressage when he is not hanging out with his pal, Teddy.

Sadie Mae

RIP 2018
Sadie Mae is an adorable Haflinger mare. She will not tell us her age, so it remains unknown. We do know that she is not a spring chicken. She came to the farm to be a therapeutic lesson horse, but had her own ideas. She is ridden by some experienced and tough little kids, but mainly accompanies Dolly in the field.

CopperandAlex

Copper

RIP March 16, 1982 – August 19, 2013
Copper was a chestnut Quarter Horse gelding born in New Jersey. Copper is the reason Helping Hands and Hooves happened. This horse was a saint of a creature who was loved by everyone. In his early years he was a spritely barrel racer.

Later in life he became a top-notch lesson horse who taught nearly everyone around how to ride. He visited the first-grade class each June so they could learn about the kindness of a horse. He gave pony rides each summer at the town fair. He gave many people their first horse ride, and one woman who was dying of cancer, her last. He became our therapeutic riding horse when we started HHH. Many students would only do their physical therapy if they were on Copper. He took students to the Special Olympic Trials where they went on to win gold medals.

Copper gave his students wings and his heart. He was a most special horse and will be forever remembered.

Our Other Animals:

Clara

DOB @ July, 2022

Sprung out of a prison cell on death row in Kentucky (for absolutely no crime whatsoever) Clara joined the family of Sea Horse Farm on July 25, 2023. She was approximately a year old. She is mostly German Shepherd, but also has Australian Cattle Dog, Labrador retriever, perhaps Norwegian elkhound and who knows what else in her. Extremely intelligent – she quickly took on the role of the protector of all animals on the farm. No fox or coyote is allowed on our premise as long as Clara is present. She also adores our students and loves a good belly rub and walk. Her pointy ears are the best.

Buddy

Buddy is a frequent visitor to the farm although she is petitioning to live there. Only problem is she would like to eat the chickens! She is Clara’s very best friend and is happiest running wildly with her through the fields.

Nelson

Nelson is not your typical Jack Russell terrier. He is nervous and quiet. He was born in Maine on August 30, 2017. He ended up in a rescue at two years old and that’s when we scooped up this little diamond. He is just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen and everyone fights over who gets to walk him. He is short in stature, but big in personality. Definitely a farm favorite!

Ernie & Bert

Bert (right) and Ernie (left) are Nigerian dwarf goat brothers. Though they look similar, their personalities could not be more different. Bert is an extrovert and Ernie the introvert. Bert enjoys eating your clothing and getting in your way while you are doing chores. Ernie loves to hang out with his buddy, Teddy. They were born in Littleton, New Hampshire, but decided to move south and reside here on our farm in Mattapoisett.

Mike

RIP 2022

Mike is a Nigerian Dwarf goat who is extremely intelligent. He once fooled a delivery man into thinking he was a German shepherd guard dog. He is actually very sweet and gentle. He enjoys escaping from his paddock and eating flowers.

Clover

RIP 2021

Clover is a Nubian goat and best friends with Mike. He enjoys getting scratched by anyone who walks by. He is not a fan of rain.
